First previewed at the KLIMS (Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show) in December 2013, the Hyundai Veloster Turbo is one of the most anticipated variants in HSDM’s product portfolios. On the exterior, the ‘2+1 layout’ Veloster Turbo gets new HID headlights with DRLs for its 2015 guise. The front-end’s single hexagonal, matte black with silver edge grille is blended exceptionally well to the carbon fiber air ducts, minus the usual bumper. Additionally, rounded foglights are paired to a single piece frame to form an aggressive and dynamic front-end.
Moving to the profile, the Veloster Turbo is taken up a notch with its prominent front and rear wheel arches, low-sloping roofline, deeply-etched shoulder line and side skirting. Meantime, the 18-inch wheels with chrome inserts and 225/40 R18 low profie tyres give it an obvious racing-inspired demeanor. From the rear, new LED lights and bumper with fog lights and diffusor give the Veloster Turbo a wider stance from the non-Turbo version. Furthermore, dual center mufflers in chrome and matching spoiler complete the Veloster Turbo’s sporty outlook.
The Veloster Turbo gets Pure Leather seats with Grey side lining, while the Turbo Sport’s seats are paired to Orange side lining. The driver seat receives lumbar support on the Veloster Turbos, whereas all amenities such as; supervision cluster, sunroof, leather gearknob, premium audio system, 7-inch touchscreen and start-stop switch; are standard across the Veloster line-up. Veloster Turbo Sport customers are now able to select two-tone colors for the seats, as well as Turbo-stitched emblems on side bolsters and unique decals.
Both the Veloster Turbo and Turbo Sport are ignited by a high-compression, twin-scroll turbocharged, GDI engine that’s capable of an output of up to 186 PS horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, between 1,500 – 4,500 rpm. Zero to hundred sprint and top speed are accorded 8 seconds and 214 km/h, respectively. The powerplant is paired to a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT), that is developed in-house by Hyundai. With steering mounted shifters and SHIFTRONIC transmission control, the Veloster is geared for performance everytime and all-the-time. Accordingly, the gearbox is specifically engineered to handle the increased torque output from the turbocharged engine and tuned to achieve higher torque and performance calibration.
Driving comfort on the Veloster Turbo has greatly improved with the incorporation of Flex Steer System on the steering that enables drivers to choose from Normal, Comfort or Sports modes. The installation of the Hood Insulator Pad and added Acoustic Absorption Material contribute to cabin quietness.
Safety features are stacked for the Veloster Turbo line-up, including the Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS, Hill-start Assist control, six airbags and more.
