ASTON MARTIN ASIA CUP – LICENSED TO THRILL!

18 December 2007

Aston Martin, the car that is synonymous with James Bond, will take to the race tracks of Asia in 2008 for the marque’s’ first ever one-make series.

The Aston Martin Asia Cup, featuring the stunning 4.3 litre, 410hp V8-engined Vantage N24 will run in a championship consisting of seven race meetings. Its first season will include 11 to 12 events including both double-header sprint races and longer endurance events.

With the prize for the winner a fully-sponsored season in an N24 in the prestigious FIA GT4 season, the series is expected to attract a stellar line-up of the region’s top sportscar racers.

Competitors entering the Aston Martin Asia Cup will receive an unrivalled service package providing them all with the same technical race service, a comprehensive spare parts package, engineers and technicians, logistics, hospitality, accommodation, and race entry.

The series is organised by Aston Martin Racing, bringing its wealth of experience in international motorsport at the highest levels. Series Director Ian Ross Geekie, a successful team manager and driver, has been a leading figure in the development of many successful series in the past decade. Together they make an unbeatable team.

Based on FIA GT4 regulations, the Aston Martin N24 Vantage GT Racing car has a front wheel-mounted longitudinal V8 engine with a six-speed rear trans-axle and rear wheel drive.

As well as providing myriad opportunities for corporate hospitality, the Aston Martin Asia Cup will receive massive television coverage, particularly in China, through its association with Auto Media China. The company will broadcast in China on its own Auto TV Channel, as well as syndicate programming to a multitude of outlets across the globe.

Bamford and Martin Limited was founded in London in 1912, becoming Aston Martin two years later following success at the Aston Hill Climb. The first Aston Martin was registered the following year, with the first works competition car making its debut in 1921. Countless successes on race tracks across the globe followed, with Aston Martin Racing’s DBR9 winning the GT1 Class at the Le Mans 24 Hour race this year.

Aston Martin Asia Cup Series Partner is one of the most recognised names in international motorsport, Michelin. All drivers will have the advantage of racing on cutting-edge tyres supplied by series partner Michelin. The consistent performance and leading technology of Michelin tyres constantly improve the performance of many teams in international motorsport, and the Aston Martin Asia Cup will benefit greatly from the company’s vast expertise and impressive motorsport pedigree.

This latest partnership between Aston Martin and Michelin is not the first.  Aston Martin won the GT1 Class at Le Mans in 2007 on Michelin tyres, and Michelin is also an Aston Martin partner in the Le Mans series and the FIA GT Championship.

The series welcomes another valuable partner, co-sponsor Dura, creators of exceptional modular cabinets and accessories for professional workshops and residential garages. The partnership with Dura reflects the professional and innovative approach of the Aston Martin brand.
