PORSCHE CARRERA CUP ASIA POWERING AHEAD IN 2008

The new car, built by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, Germany, boasts a 420bhp engine, an increase of 20bhp over the current model, additional torque, and an upgraded gearbox. Design modifications, which combined with the engine upgrades will further enhance performance ensuring even faster and more exciting racing next season, include the bumper panel from the GT3 road car at the rear.

Demand for the 18 available cars is expected to be high, with a number of potential new drivers hoping to join what has quickly become the pinnacle of professional sportscar racing in the region next year.

The 997-based Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car was first introduced to Asia at the start of the 2006 season, and is the same racing car competing in the Carrera Cups around the world as well as the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup which supports the European and Middle East rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia supports the Malaysian and Chinese rounds of the Championship during its 12-round season, which culminates in a spectacular season-closer at the Macau Grand Prix in November.

The series also runs as part of the Asian Festival of Speed, organized by Malaysian-based Motorsport Asia Limited.

Supporting the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is two of the most recognized names in international motorsport, Mobil1 and Michelin. Mobil and Porsche have been partners since 1996. Close co-operation in research and development has led to every new Porsche engine being filled with Mobil1 high-performance lubricant.
