BMW Motorsport looks to defend DTM crown with new lubricants partner

With approximately three months until the start of the 2015 DTM (Deutschen Tourenwagen Masters) season, BMW Motorsport is busy preparing the M4 DTMs for the new campaign. The DTM is scheduled to kick off with the first round at the Hockenheimring, from 1 – 3 May.

Shell fully commits to BMW’s motorsport endeavors by allocating dedicated engineers to work alongside BMW Motorsport technical personnel in pre-season testings and races. As part of new regulations in the DTM, each manufacturer is only permitted nine engines for the entire season. Therefore, the Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology plays a major role in ensuring the engines’ optimum performance and withstanding the engines’ tumultuous wear and tear in races. The Shell PurePlus Technology is  a revolutionary gas-to-liquids process which has been forty years in the making and enables the creation of motor oil from natural gas instead of crude oil. This creates a finished product that can deliver enhanced cleansing and engine protection, resulting in greater efficiency.

According to Shell, motor oils are crucial in ensuring engine durability and enabling vehicle efficiency and performance. Their cleansing, friction reduction and temperature control properties are important contributors to durability and performance.

BMW brands, including MINI and Motorrad, have already started utilizing Shell engine oils, under the alliance pact. Shell engine oils are available to customers at BMW’s network of more than 3,500 dealers in over 140 countries.
