Singapore Grand Prix Experience

Singapore Grand Prix have been running for 12 years in a row. Being a F1 fan since young, this is the 1st time that I’ve gotten a chance to visit a full F1 race weekend. The Singapore GP is a street circuit that they closed up the street to create the circuit.

During the race weekend, Singapore GP turns into a fuel and fun event for fans and 1st timer. There are plenty of different event going on during the weekend. For starters, the whole event is being split into 4 different zones for attendees to experience during the event.

Zone 1 consist of a center concert stage, a showcase of classic cars, a market street that sells food, and a F1 village where fans can get their hands on merchandise of teams they support. Apart from that, there are a few activities that includes a few racing rigs that you can get your hands on to see how you fare among other racing fans.

Zone 2 have not much event happening there apart from the Singapore flyer ferris wheel. Zone 3 have a smaller concert stage and some food stall around the stage. Zone 4 would be the zone where all the big stars perform on a huge stage in the middle of the field.

The Breakdown

Day 1 –

Arrive the track at 8.50pm to pick up the media passes. The free practice 2 is ongoing, hearing the f1 cars going around the track make us excited about the next 2 days of the upcoming experience. Didn’t manage to catch the Swedish Mafia House Concert, but we are happy that we made it to Singapore for our 1st F1 experience. The 1st impression about the track is brightly lit, and the setup is well organized by the Singapore GP officials.

Day 2 –

We start our F1 experience on day 2 by arriving at the track around 4pm, the Porsche Carrera Asia Cup is having their qualifying round. Entering through gate 2 allow us to get an up-close experience when the Porsche Carrera Cup cars driving past us on the circuit. The thundering shriek from the flat-6 engine of the Porsche Carrera Cup cars is definitely something to behold.

We manage to get a viewing spot around the end of the pit straight into turn 1 during the free practice 3. 1st time seeing the F1 cars drive pass us at high speed give us a sense of how fast the F1 cars are in real life. After dinner, we continue watching the qualifying on the padang area. Where we are trying to catch Muse concert after the qualifying. The qualifying was exciting as drivers are gunning around the track trying to gain the best track position they can get.

Muse concert was wonderful, people were singing along to the band with their songs. The lightshow and dancers put on a spectacular show for everyone that turn up for the concert. The crowd was phenomenal.

Day 3 –

We came to the track at 4pm as well. We are hype to check out Hans Zimmer performing live on stage. The music that were played during the concert was all the famous movies theme songs, give people who attend the event an epic visual and audio experience.

We head over to turn 3 viewing platform to check out the driver’s parade on classic cars. After that it’s the wait for the race start. We camp at turn 3 is because we feel that it’s one of the location where one of the big braking zone is. During the 1st lap of the race, you can see the F1 cars cruising pass turn 3 while kicking up all the dust. It’s quite something to see in real life. After the 1st few laps, we made our way to the market street around zone 1 to get some food, while watching the race on one of the big screen around the circuit. When the race reach the last 15 laps, we decided to go to the viewing point beside the end of pit straight to watch Sabastian Vettel finally win a race after ages since he last win a race.

After the race is over, the fireworks that we manage to see is nothing short of impressive, with fireworks on top of the flood lights makes a spectacular view while the fireworks around the circuit lights up the night sky. We get a chance to walk on the pit straight to see all the rubber that is disintegrated on to the race circuit after the race.

Conclusion

The whole festival was spectacular. It’s a great experience for someone who attends an F1 race for the 1st time. Would definitely recommend for people who wants to experience F1 festival. Singapore definitely put on a great show for everyone.
