DTM and Super GT set to clash in Hockenheim season finale

The Super GT Powerhouses, Japanese Super Touring Cars series, is set to make a historic appearance in a special clash with DTM forerunners. The Nissan, Honda and Lexus of the Super GT series will go up against the best the DTM has to offer, the Aston Martin, Audi and BMW. As a main highlight former F1 driver Jenson Button will make his DTM debut at the season finale in Hockenheim, set for 4 – 6 October.

This event marks the first, much-anticipated summit clash between the world’s two biggest GT and Touring Car championships. The aim is to pit Asia’s hugely popular Super GT series versus DTM manufacturers in a historic, unifying event.

No fewer than five Super GT drivers are set to contest the Hockenheim race weekend. Button will drive his Honda NSX-GT at Hockenheim. The Brit joined the Super GT in 2018 with team Kunimitsu and won the title on his first year, alongside teammate Naoki Yamamoto. Super GT rivals Nissan and Lexus will field a couple of drivers each. Nissan has Ronnie Quintarelli, the series’ most successful champion with four drivers’ titles and Tsugio Matsuda, a two-time champion. The Lexis camp will be represented by Nick Cassidy and Ryō Hirakawa; the 2017 champions.

As an added bonus, there’s free entry for ticket holders  to see  exotic Japanese car culture in collaboration with Reisbrennen, a major international meeting for Japanese car owners, tuners and race fans. Over 2,000 members of the ‘Reisbrennen’ community have already confirmed their attendance at Hockenheim, where they will gain free admission to the north grandstand B to watch the race. In addition, there’s a Japanese village, food stalls and car components exhibition from the Land of the Rising Sun.

After the DTM Hockenheim finale, the scene will shift to Japan’s Fuji Speedway for the inaugural ‘Super GT x DTM Dream Race’, from 23 – 24 November.
