The annual FXOpen Drift competition slated from 25 – 27 March at SpeedCity, Selangor Turf Club in the capital city is bound to excite drifters and drift enthusiasts alike. Aptly themed “Witness the Adrenaline Pumping High Impact Action!”, this year’s edition brings together the regulars and star participants as well as fresh competitors who have had experience in smaller and domesticated drift challenges. |
The FXOpen Drift is a rival series to the popular Formula Drift Asia series and Goodyear International Drift series (GIDS) which has recently gained momentum due to endorsements by big drifter names such as; Malaysian Prince of Drift Tengku Djan, and International drifters; American Tony Angelo and Russian Evgeny Satyukov.
The 2011 FXOpen has received quite an encouraging response from many aspiring drifters thanks to its RM100,000 jackpot for the champion, RM 50,000 to the runner-up and third place drifter’s RM30,000 prize. The staggering cash prizes alone are considered worth the entry and would bring out the best of drifters in the local scene, considering that most acclaimed drift competitions and local drift challenges offer a measly RM5,000 and below for the winner and podium finishes.
The venue, SpeedCity is a brand new setting for drifters to come and experience the challenge of competition with the best. The track is a part of the Selangor Turf Club at Seri Kembangan. FXOpen has invited teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Belarus, Indonesia, Thailand, USA and other countries to participate in this high-profile international event. First day activities on 25 March, Friday, will see the customary checks on drift cars, a drifters briefing, track inspections and practice sessions or getting ‘rubber’ down on the tracks. Everyone will get a little serious on Saturday with qualifying and the top 32 mix for Sunday’s main event.
More recently, FXOpen held a street party which saw an large turn-out of drifters, drift queens, sponsors and guests. The night was filled with plenty of activities like; autograph and photo sessions with top drifters and drift queens and a bunch of special performances by chic female dancers and entertainers. Former Team Goodyear Malaysia driver Johan Norman, a representative of the FXOpen Drift, announced the organizer’s intentions to make the 2011 event even bigger than previous years.
Leading the charge as the main sponsor is of course FXOpen, a leading FOREX brokerage firm, along with a host of sponsors including, Mines, SpeedCity, Bridgestone, Motorsport Playground and many others.
