|The anticipated Isuzu MU-X SUV has arrived on domestic shores, courtesy of Isuzu Malaysia. The Isuzu MU-X, dubbed All Set for More, is undoubtedly the vehicle that will spur Isuzu Malaysia’s popularity to even greater heights.|
The new Isuzu MU-X takes up updated refinements and that undeniable Japanese craftsmanship to the fore. Its exterior characteristics inherit the D-Max’s traits to the fullest. Obviously, the SUV differs from the pick-up with its suave lines and gentler off-road tones. At the front, the double-decked grey matte grille and chrome-accented panel at the edge of the hood blend well with the rectangular headlights and give an overall forward intent. The black lower bumper is accentuated by the DRLs and rounded foglights.
The side of the Isuzu MU-X incorporates matching roof rails, which could hold up to 60 kilograms, and 16-inch or 17-inch wheels. The 16-inch wheels with 245/70 R16 tyres are fitted as standard on the 4X2 version of the MU-X, while 17-inchers with 255/65R17 are fixtures for the 4X4 MU-X. From the rear, the MU-X has a compact spoiler (4X4 only) that pairs good with the extended windscreen. A large chrome-plated piece is fitted above the number plate, and the combination lights have an angled shape motif. The lower bumper with foglights is adjoined to a large, sturdy skid plate (Muffler cutter, 4X4 only) for extra protection.
Interior-wise, the Isuzu MU-X is all about space for seven people. The second and third rows when folded down allow for a greater cargo capacity. For entertainment purposes, the MU-X 4X4 version comes with the Isuzu Infotainment System with 6 speakers, DVD player and GPS navigation. The 4X2 version has a standard audio system with 2-DIN CD, 6 speakers and customary features. Standard interior highlights include steering with switches, fold-down monitor at the rear (4X4 only), rear blower on 2nd/3rd row seat, MID (Multi-info display) and a myriad of amenities.
The Isuzu MU-X is powered by a 2.5-liter VGS Turbo Diesel, paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift for a bit of a manual mode. Output and torque are 136 PS at 3,400 rpm and 320 Nm between 1,800 – 2,800 rpm. The 4X4 MU-X is even equipped with the 4WD Terrain Command, which assists to tackle the toughest terrains and off-road routes. And thanks to the 5-link suspension with coil springs and stabilizer, the MU-X is ready for any obstacles ahead.
Safety features are aplenty for the MU-X, however the main driver’s assistance systems are the 4-channel ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, ESC and Traction Control system.
Isuzu Malaysia expects to deliver at least 300 MU-X per month, especially with the growing interests for SUVs in the country. The Isuzu MU-X is available in Titanium Silver, Cosmis Black, Splash White and Ulure Brown hues. The Isuzu MU-X 4X2 is priced at RM 151,944.56 and the 4X4 is RM 164,969.84; all prices are on-the-road with insurance.
