Kimi Raikkonen back to his most comfortable F1 squad

Formula 1: Raikkonen-returns-to-Ferrari-camp-for-2014-2015 Ferrari announced that the ‘Iceman’ would rejoin the team for the next two seasons. Raikkonen, who’s the 2007 F1 Champion with Ferrari, will run alongside twice F1 champion Fernando Alonso at the Maranello-based squad for the 2014 – 15 campaigns. Outgoing driver Felipe Massa has been voted out following several slumping seasons.

With Raikkonen and Alonso in the drivers’ line-up for 2014, Ferrari has the strongest and most experienced pair in the sport’s history. Raikkonen won his sole F1 title on his first year at the Maranello squad, and in the following year he finished third in the standings. In 2009, the Finn retired from F1 to pursue WRC and NASCAR ventures for the next two years. However, the two motorsport series just weren’t challenging enough for the Finn as he decided to return to F1 in 2012 with the Lotus F1 team.

Raikkonen has always been a super consistent lad and driver, and his usually cool demeanor and quick pace were exactly what the Lotus outfit needed in its first year as an independent racing team. For the 2012 season, Raikkonen came through with a victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, a couple of fastest laps and seven podium finishes for an eventual 3rd placing in the drivers’ standings.

The current year saw Raikkonen secure a win at the season-opening race in Australia and six podiums to date. The Iceman entered F1 in 2001 with the now defunct Red Bull Sauber F1 team, later took on a bigger role at one of  F1’s top teams, McLaren Mercedes. During his five seasons at McLaren, Raikkonen got closest to his first title in 2005; the year he finished runners-up.

A Raikkonen-Alonso combo. should be interesting on the grid, not only for the spectators, but because of the definite intense internal rivalry between the Finn and the two-time F1 champ.
