More Chinese Porsche dealer teams competing for PCCA glory in 2014
This year’s PCCA campaign sees a record number of Chinese Porsche dealer teams, which include seasoned PCCA drivers like Zhang Da Sheng, Jason Zhang Zhi Qiang, Martin Ragginger (last year’s Class A runner-up), Alexandre Imperatori, Rodolfo Avila of Team Jebsen (3rd in last year’s Class A classification), Ringo Chong, Li Chao (last season’s Class B runner-up), and the rookies; Bao Jin Long and Zhang Zhen Dong. Former F1 test and reserve driver Tung Ho-Pin returns for his third stint in the PCCA, while class B champ Egidio Perfetti steps up to the overall title plate. With Perfetti moving to the premier class, Class B contenders now include Singapore’s Yuey Tan (last year’s runner-up), Francis Tjia of Hong Kong, Malaysian Alif Hamdan, John and Wayne Shen, Siu Yuk Lung, Samson Chan, Mak Hing Tak, all of Hong Kong, as well as the rookie Michael S. New and returning drivers for the Class B category also include; Kenneth Lau, Michael Choi, Mok Weng Sun, Jacky Yeung, Bentley Yeung and Johnson Huang.
Reigning PCCA Champion Earl Bamber of LKM Racing team is the man to beat in the Class A category. In a season which was nothing short of phenomenal, Bamber clinched last season’s PCCA title, won the Porsche Motorsport International Cup scholarship, and secured himself a full season in the 2014 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The New Zealander naturally aims to defend his PCCA title and compete well in one of the Carrera Cup Germany races.
Class A pros have the privilege to pilot the 2014-spec 911 GT3 Cup, a step up of the previous generation Cup racer. The latest 911 GT3 Cup boasts a more powerful 3.8-liter flat six engine that produces 460 horsepower, 10 hp more than its predecessor, and the six-speed sequential gearbox is operated by pneumatic paddle shift system, yet another first for the PCCA Cup car.
