Red Bull Racing Completes Monza Test

1 September 2006
In Monza, the Red Bull Racing test team has been gunning for tenths and hundredths of a second in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix which takes place at this track on 10 September.

The team had a two day session with both race drivers present on both days in what was the penultimate major test of the season.

On Wednesday; David Coulthard (left) did 89 laps with a best time of 1:25.074 while Christian Klien(above) scored 51 laps with a time of 1:23.795. On Thursday, DC did 75 laps with a further improved time of 1:22.939 and Klien did an amazing time of 1:21.999.

The main item on the agenda was tyre choice for the race, which was a complex task as, since the team was last here in June, many sections of the track have been resurfaced.

The drivers ran different tyre programmes; one working on compounds, the other on construction. The unique high speed nature of the track means that an equally unique low downforce package was also tested.

“Generally, the test went well with David getting through his full programme on the first day, when Christian lost a bit of time going off the track and with a gearbox problem,” said Chief Test Engineer, Ian Morgan.

“For the second day session, Christian (right) was again slightly delayed, this time by a brake problem in the morning and he also had a very minor “off” right at the end of the day.”

“The engine ran faultlessly throughout and we are happy with the tyre choices we have made for next weekend.”
