Marquez tops MotoGP Phillip Island qualifiers despite wet conditions

 2016 MotoGP Australian Marc Marquez on pole The Australian Grand Prix qualifiers saw new MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez capture his 37th career pole in premier class. It was Marquez’s seventh pole of the season, as he topped Cal Crutchlow and Pol Espargaro to lead the first row. Aleix Espargaro qualified fourth, ahead of Jack Miller and Danilo Petrucci, to lead off the second row.

2016 MotoGP test Phillip Island Maverick Vinales Rain interrupted MotoGP’s second official test at Phillip Island on the first day but the teams managed to run a shortened session during the second half of the day. The first day’s session fastest rider was Danilo Petrucci of the Ducati Pramac outfit with a time of 1:31.764. Reigning MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo finished the first day way down in sixteenth and his team mate Valentino Rossi took sixth place overall.

Marquez’s win didn’t prevent Yamaha from capturing the Manufacturers’ trophy, with the Riders’ title almost within grasp in the next couple of races; between Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. A triple crown in progress for Yamaha, following second and fourth place finishes from Lorenzo and Rossi at the picturesque Phillip Island track. Andrea Iannone returned to form after recent discomfort to grab third place for Ducati.

Rossi captures 2nd victory at incident-packed Phillip Island

 2014 MotoGP Phillip Island Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo battle it out The third-to-last Grand Prix of the MotoGP season at Phillip Island saw Valentino Rossi take his second victory of the season, ahead of team mate Jorge Lorenzo and Satellite Yamaha rider Bradley Smith. It was the first all-Yamaha podium of the season, as well. Both Repsol Hondas of double Champion Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa were forced out by separate incidents. Rossi’s 2nd win of the season was his 82nd in MotoGP; on the occasion of his 250th appearance.

A three-way fight for MotoGP Riders’ Runners up spot at Phillip Island

 2014 MotoGP Silverston Dani Pedrosa With the Riders’ Championship already decided, the upcoming Grand Prix of Australia at Phillip Island, Round 16 of the MotoGP Championship, will determine who gets an edge for the runners up position. The runners up slugfest would be between Dani Pedrosa, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. Besides the runners spot, there are the Constructors’ and Teams’ titles to slug it out for between Honda and Yamaha and the Repsol Honda team and Yamaha MotoGP. Honda holds the advantage in the manufacturers’ rankings with a 60-point lead, while Repsol Honda has an 85-point advantage over the factory Yamaha team in the teams’ title chase.
