Ogier claims fifth WRC Rally Portugal win

  The weekend’s WRC Rally Portugal saw Four-time Champion Sebastien Ogier secure his second win of the season for his 40th career world rally win. Ogier held a 15.6 seconds lead from Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville at the final checkpoint of the rally on Sunday’s final leg. With the win, Ogier matches a record of five Portugal wins; previously held by Markku Alén.

The Citroen DS3 WRC crew will head into the final leg with a 45.3s lead over the second-placed crew. The leg was more difficult for the other Abu Dhabi Total WRT drivers, since Stéphane Lefebvre and Khalid Al Qassimi were both forced to retire. Volkswagen is well-placed in the race for victory and podium places as Reigning Champion Sébastien Ogier and team mate Andreas Mikkelsen were embroiled in a thrilling duel for second place on day two. The Volkswagen duo would end up behind Meeke at the end of the leg.

Latvala leads a Volkswagen 1-2-3 at WRC Rally Portugal

Team mates Reigning Champion Sebastien Ogier and Andreas Mikkelsen affirmed Volkswagen’s dominance with solid second and third placings. Best factory finishers were Kris Meeke for Citroen and Dani Sordo for Hyundai.
