DTM and Super GT ready for Season Finale at Hockenheim

The DTM season is drawing to a close with the pinnacle or grand finale at the Hockenheim track, this weekend. This season’s finale is special with the clash between DTM and Super GT cars. It’ll be a spectacle for the fans indeed!

Heading into the finale, the drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles have already gone to Rene Rast and Audi. The teams title is still up for grabs, but that’ll take a back seat with the big guns from Super GT added to the fold. As we have covered previously, the three big Super GT squads Nissan, Lexus and Honda are partaking in this clash of the titans, against DTM Powerhouses Audi, BMW and Aston Martin. One of the major drivers featured is none other than former F1 and current Super GT driver Jenson Button. Button, who’s the reigning champion, is driving his trusty Honda NSX GT during the exhibition race. The finale weekend is attended by some of the well-known motorsport figureheads such as former F1 driver Emerson Fittipaldi, former F1 champion Nico Rosberg, two-time WRC champion Walter Röhrl and ’85 World Sportcar/’90 DTM champion Hans-Joachim Stuck.

Button partners his Honda factory team mate Naoki Yamamoto, while Nissan’s got the pairing of Ronnie Quintarelli and Tsugio Matsuda. For Lexus, the driver duo is Nick Cassidy and Ryō Hirakawa. Nissan and Lexus are represented by two drivers, one per race, while Honda is represented by just one driver.

All out battle for DTM Team title

Recent victories for Rast and Jamie Green have pushed Audi Sport Team Rosberg (394 points) narrowly ahead of Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline (362pts) pairing of Nico Müller and Robin Frijns. After a season-long battle between the two squads, the pair are separated by a mere 32 points, with 86 points remaining on the table to be scored in the final two races.

After the grand finale at Hockenheim, the DTM will cross over to Japan’s Fuji Speedway in November for a ‘Dream Race’ showdown with Super GT drivers at their home turf,
