THE 911 GT3 CUP TO BE FEATURED IN 2010

The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is set to be even faster in 2010 with the announcement of a new race car – a stronger, wider, quicker version of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Drivers who sign up for next season
will be able to compete on Asia’s finest race tracks in the awesome new car, and with a championship which has set new benchmarks in motorsport professionalism since 2003.

The successor to the best-selling and most successful production-based racing car of more than 1,400 units, will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month, and is for the first time based on the street-legal 2010 GT3 RS version with the weight of the racing model reduced significantly from the lightweight road-going version to 1,200 kg.

Engine capacity is up by 0.2 litres over the former model to 3.8 litres, producing 30 more horsepower – the six-cylinder horizontally-opposed power unit developing 450 bhp (331 kW), maximum engine speed of 8,500 rpm - with a sequential six-speed manual gearbox.

This is the first GT3 Cup to feature the 44-millimetre wider body at the rear, allowing for even larger wheels.  Wider front wheel arches allow for three-piece light-alloy rims measuring 9.5 J x 18 (previously 9 J x 18) and running on 24/64-18 Michelin racing tyres.  With the flared rear wheel arches, the three-piece light-alloy rims on the axle are up by an inch to 12 J x 18, and running on 27/68-18 tyres.

The sleek new 911 GT3 Cup is immediately recognisable from its impressive look and front end design.  The striking daytime driving lights are straight from the current generation of the 911, while the front body panels are the same as those of the road-going 911 GT3 RS and are aerodynamically-efficient for racing duty.

The front spoiler lip, however, is 15 millimetres lower to providing significantly more downforce on the front axle.  Downforce on the rear axle is also increased by the rear wing, extended in width to 1.7 metres and fitted higher, a feature carried over from the even faster 911 GT3 Cup S which competes in FIA GT3 racing.  The rear air dam, with its striking air vent openings, as well as the rear LED lights, come straight from

the road model.

Additional Unibal joints are featured on the track control arms, and the sword-shaped anti-roll bars front and rear are now adjustable to seven different positions on both sides, allowing even more precise setup for each race track.

The cockpit of the new 911 GT3 Cup has been designed with even greater focus on the need of the driver.  An extra vent in the upper section of the front lid provides improved air supply, while the controls for the Info Display, which houses six switches, are now positioned directly on the steering wheel.  In addition to the fore and aft adjustment, the steering wheels itself may also be adjusted for height, as on the

regular production car.

In the 2010 motor racing season, the superb new car (available exclusively in Carrara White) will contest no fewer than seven Porsche one-make series: The Porsche Mobil1 Supercup; the Porsche Carrera Cups in Asia, Germany, Japan and Italy; and the GT3 Cup Challenges in the USA and the Middle East.
