The inaugural Formula Drift Malaysia has kicked off earlier at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) with a total of 53 drifters from around the region. Incidentally, this highly anticipated drift spectacle has been deemed as the largest event ever in Asia and will conclude tomorrow.
These 53 drifters from respective countries; Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia, congregate at the MAEPS with one common objective - to claim the Formula Drift Malaysia overall Championship.
As the response from drift enthusiasts locally and around the region has been increasing consistently since last year's inaugural Formula Drift Singapore, and because of the popularity of these events, the Formula Drift organization subsequently held the 2nd edition of Formula Drift Singapore in July 2009 and expanded the series to Thailand last month, with the concluding Asian round reserved for Malaysia.

GOODYEAR continues to be committed to the Formula Drift Malaysia as the title sponsor. In addition, the World's largest tyre company is providing innovative and high performance tyres to Formula Drift Malaysia participants, especially the GOODYEAR Racing Teams. At the Malaysian Formula Drift event, GOODYEAR drifters would utilize GOODYEAR ultra high performance tyres: RevSpec RS-02 and Eagle RS Sport, to get the ultimate edge and competitiveness in the toughest environment of drift motorsports.

GOODYEAR Racing are represented by some of the top names of Formula Drift which include; New Zealander Mike Whiddet (Mad Mike), Japanese Ryuji Miki, and Malaysians: Ariff Johanis, Michael Gan, Johan Norman, Ee Yoong Chern and Jane Cheah. Beside the International and Malaysian cast, GOODYEAR are also represented by drifters from these respective countries, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.
In today's qualifying session, the top 32 drifters have been ascertained to compete for the coveted Formula Drift Malaysia Champion. There were good results and disappointments for GOODYEAR Racing squads, the tough 53-car field saw the competitors at their best despite the rain in the afternoon. Several Goodyear Racing drivers including Miki, Johanis, Whiddet, Ivan Lim and Rifat, made it through into the top 32. The field was led by Tengku Djan who scored 88.7 for top marks in qualifying.
The best of the GOODYEAR Racing Teams were Miki who finished third overall with a top score of 78.2, while Malaysian A. Johanis was fourth overall with 77.4. Malaysia's hope for a possible Formula Drift Malaysia Champion now rests on Johanis' shoulders.
With the top 32 already decided for the final showdown, fans and enthusiasts are suggested to make their way to the MAEPS tomorrow to witness the breathtaking drift action and non-stop exhiliration at its very best.
