Sandell resides in Östersund and for years has been regarded as the great hope of the even greater rallying nation of Sweden. While, Co-driver Axelsson resides in Linköping and has accompanied Sandell ever since he entered rallying.
The pairing won the first two rallies of 2009 in Norway and Cyprus and finished second in Sardinia. But, unnecessary retirements in the second half of the year thwarted any chance at the title. Overall, the Swedes finished fourth in the 2009 Production Car World Rally Championship (PWRC).
The SWRC Championship title is the target for RBRT this year with seven confirmed WRC rallies in the calendar. Even though, the SWRC entry list has not been finalized yet: Sandell/Axelsson will again number among the top favorites this year. This season, the Austrian team wants to win the title outright following their victorious 2008 season and will therefore rely on the Swedish pairing of Sandell/Axelsson and the new Skoda Fabia S 2000.
The 2010 season will open with the RBRT drivers' home event; the Swedish Rally from 12 - 14 February.
Raimund Baumschlager, Team Principal, said, "With the Skoda Fabia S 2000 we also have a definite winning car in 2010, there will be an improved version in the summer – which will be called Evo2 then. The championship will become even more interesting with Ford entering, that’s for certain!”
