SIC'S BIKEATHON SEES GOOD RESPONSE IN 2ND EDITION

Mountain bikers were in for a treat last Sunday with the Kencana-SIC Bikeathon 2010 edition. In addition,  the 2010 Bikeathon had a new race program, complimenting the mountain bike route.  One of the lesser high-octane sports organized by SIC and initiated by CEO Razlan Razali.
 

Razali quoted, "It’s a way for SIC to diversify and be able to cater to a broader type of events such as weddings and parties."

Hundreds of ardent bikers which included national cyclists participated in a road race around the 5.543km Sepang circuit, while mountain bikers raced on a 3km long off road circuit set in between oil palm trees near the main entrance of SIC.  The race was conducted in an anti clockwise as opposed to regular races at SIC.
 

Riders took every challenge in stride, negotiating sandy and part grass surfaces which consist two uphill sections, to outperform each other for the top bikers prize categories. These categories were : Junior for ages 18 and below (5laps), Veteran for ages 45 and above (5 laps) and Open class (10 laps).

The Road race open class went to Adig Hussaini Othman, while Tony Harvey and Sofian Nabil Omar won the Veteran and Junior affairs respectively.

In the mountain bikes category, Shahrin Amir took the open class win, with Tony Harvey, who also won the road race, finished tops in the Veteran class and Amirul Fakharuddin Mazuki took first place in the Juniors.

Kids were also in for a treat with the criterium race, where kids competed in a 400m dash on the front straight to the finish line.
