Its Executive Director, Datuk Dr. Ang Boon Beng revealed a positive growth for ETCM in terms of sales performance with the release of the MAA figures for 2009. The model leading ETCM sales increase is none other than the Grand Livina (above) which gained a 38% market share in the 3-row MPV (petrol) segment, equivalent to 20% in the MPV category.
Aside from the Grand Livina, the Nissan Urvan has also emerged as the best seller in the window van (diesel) segment for 2009 with a market share of 30%.
Dr. Ang commented, "The increased market share and numerous awards won by Nissan’s range of new models in Malaysia signify the growing market acceptance of our products, and recognition of the excellent value proposition that our products offer."
"These accomplishments were made possible through the kind assistance and good collaboration of members of the media to complement the efforts put in by the team at ETCM," he added.
While the total industry volume as reported by MAA fell by 2% in 2009 when compared to 2008, total sales for Nissan in 2009 increased to 29,683 units from 28,313 units in 2008 to register a 5% increase despite the economic downturn which set into Malaysia from the last quarter of 2008 through the first half 2009.
Each Nissan variant has garnered an award conferred by the media, the Sylphy got top honors in "Luxury Family Cars" category, the Grand Livina secured third best in "Compact MPV", 370Z was a top-notch "Premium Performance Car" and "2-door Coupe", the new Murano grabbed "Premium Suv" category, while Navara scooped accolades for "The Best Speed Bump Killer", "Pickup" category and "Best Value for Money Pickup" truck.
In 2010, ETCM forecasts TIV to be between 545,000 and 550,000, and MPV will be the growth segment. Domestically, the group will maintain the current momentum with a few core models and some proven models.
