Also unveiled at the launch were the new BMW R 1200 GS, BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, BMW R 1200 RT and the BMW F800 R, a bike that has been made famous world over by professional stunt biker, Chris Pfeiffer.
Held at the Sepang International Circuit in conjunction with the Planet Power event organised by BMW Group Malaysia, the launch saw the first ever introduction of a BMW superbike, the BMW S 1000 RR.
Featuring a specifically developed straight-four power unit with a total displacement of 999 cc, the BMW S 1000 RR is capable of delivering 142 kW/193 hp at 13,000 rpm and maximum torque delivery of 112 Nm. Titanium valves and rocker arms rather than the typical bucket tappets further allows the engine to rev up to over 14,200 rpm while also reducing overall engine weight to 59.8 kilograms making it lighter, more powerful and more compact than any comparable engine available. A central ram air intake further ensures that the full force of the wind rush enters the BMW S 1000 RR’s vertical air filter panels directly, translating into an output boost of as much as 7 horsepower (5.2 kilowatts) at speeds over 200 km/h.

The BMW S 1000 RR also comes with the most advanced and sophisticated digital motor electronics currently available on a motorcycle. The software incorporated in this sophisticated BMS-KP (BMW Engine Management with Anti-Knock Control) is a fully in-house development by BMW’s Motorrad division specifically for motorcycle applications.
Fully sequential, cylinder-specific fuel injection, integrated anti-knock control, ultra-fast processing of a wide range of sensor signals by the most advanced microelectronics, a compact layout, low weight and self-diagnosis system are all key features of the BMS-KP system, and to manage the requirements of the S 1000 RR the engine management unit comes with its own dedicated high speed central computer.
Also introduced at the event were the new BMW R 1200 GS and BMW R 1200 GS Adventure which adds another chapter to the story of the highly successful GS models from BMW. The GS models have enjoyed tremendous success as large-capacity grand touring enduros for nearly three decades.
Sporting the superior 1,170-cc Boxer engine, the new BMW R 1200 GS and BMW R 1200 GS Adventure are capable of delivering a maximum output of 81 kW/110 hp at 7,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 120 Nm. These performance capabilities make the new R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure even more dynamic, powerful and muscular in terms of both torque and acceleration throughout the entire speed range compared to their predecessors, thus once again setting the benchmark in the enduro segment in terms of riding dynamics.
Built with speed in mind from the start, the R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure’s new flat-twin power unit comes with two overhead, chain-driven camshafts (DOHC) per cylinder. The valves are operated by very light rocker arms which are able to cope with very high engine speeds trough their low weight alone and the radial arrangement of the four valves is further ensured via very compact combustion chambers.
Like its enduro counterparts, the BMW R 1200 RT road tourer also sports the 1,170-cc boxer engine. Set to meet frequent touring conditions, the new R 1200 RT boast a significant increase in torque at low and medium engine speeds, essential when navigating urban road conditions, with an absolutely smooth and homogenous torque curve.
Finishing the line-up of BMW Motorrad models is the BMW F 800 R, a sporty roadster designed for high levels of riding dynamics and maximum riding pleasure in the medium category naked bike segment. With a nominal output of 64 kW/ 87 bhp at 8,000 rpm the BMW F800 R’s 798 cc water cooled twin cylinder 4-stroke engine is capable of producing up to 86 Nm of torque.
The new BMW F 800 R includes the sports Akrapović® rear silencer, and its lack of a cockpit fairing emphasizes the purist character and sporty purpose of this exceptional bike.
The exceptional dynamic performance of the F 800 R is also strongly attributed to its low weight of 199kg when fully fuelled, its sprint-oriented gear ratio and its chassis which is especially adapted to the demands of a sports oriented bike with a light alloy bridge frame and dual rear wheel swing arms.

The retail prices (on the road including personal road tax registration excluding insurance) are as follows; S 1000 RR RM 108,800.00,
R 1200 GS RM 115,000.00, R 1200 GS Adventure RM 123,000.00, R 1200 RT RM 128,000.00 and F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer edition RM 85,000.00.
