Australia’s finest Drifting talent will face off against interstate drivers, when the second-annual Drift Supercup gets underway at Mallala Motorsport Park this weekend.

Drivers from Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania will do battle against local heroes at the Adelaide circuit, all vying for a share of a massive $12,000 prize pool, including $5,000 for the Pro Class Winner in the two-day event.

Event Organiser Rob Curkpatrick is pleased with the high number of entries received for this weekend’s event.

“We have all our top South Australian drivers competing as well as strong talent from Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland,” he said.

“We can guarantee there will be plenty of top quality, high speed sideways action on the track to entertain the crowds as well as stacks of other on and off track activities.”

With last year’s Champion, Luke Fink not competing at the 2010 Drift Supercup, 2009 runner-up Adam May is looking to go one place this year and be crowned the Drift Supercup Champion.

“I am heading to Mallala this weekend to win … Hopefully the weather will remain dry (unlike last year) so I can show off the car at full speed,” he said.

“The Drift Supercup is the best drift competition I’ve ever been involved in and I can’t wait to hit the track.”

May will be battling in a field of other high quality Drifters including 2008 Drift Australia Champion, Leighton Fine.

Fine finished strongly in the 2009 Drift Supercup after a tough weekend that saw his car sidelined with mechanical problems on the first day, but he managed to borrow a car and finish inside the Top Eight.

Simon Podlewski, reigning South Australian G1 Drifting Champion and runner-up in the 2009 Drift Nationals, is also ready to compete for the position at the top of the battle tree in his Nissan S1480.

Talented youngster Josh Coote is the sole Pro Class Drifter from Queensland, but the 2008 Super Drift Champion is up for the challenge.

Drifting veteran Ben Purtell with his Nissan 180SX will head a team of talented Tasmanian drifters including teenage young gun Lloyd Smith.

Winner of last year’s OzDrift GP event in Tasmania and third in the 2009 Drift Supercup, Leigh Pidwell will travel from Melbourne to compete and is keen to uphold Victoria’s Drifting honour.

South Australian drivers dominate the 30-car Pro Class line-up, including experienced aces like Eddie Modra, Tom Monkhouse and Christian Pickering.

Local up-and-coming drivers will also be out to impress in the second-tier Street Class.

The Drift Supercup is now the only national Drifting event at Mallala in 2010, and the organisers are ensuring it will not disappoint.

Along with the Drift action there will be a host of other track activities to entertain the crowds including an extreme motorcycle stunt show, a Track Walk for spectators and the Autosport Time Attack for circuit racers.

The Autosport Time Attack will feature the skills of two of the three Drift Supercup judges, Kristian Applet and Paul Austin, who will exchange their judge’s hats for driving suits when they hit the track in this timed event.
