In a weekend where an earthquake rocked Adelaide in South Australia, Simon Podlewski (above) rocked Mallala Motor Sport Park to claim the 2010 Drift Supercup in a thrilling final battle. The Team CTS driver defeated Tom Monkhouse in a close duel where only six points separated the top two Drifters, capping off an action-packed weekend where interstate and local drivers battled it out.

Podlewski was almost a last minute scratching from the Drift Supercup, as his wife is about to give birth to the couple’s first baby. Following his truimph, Podlewski commented, "The weekend was great, and really well-run … Full credit to the organisers for all the time and effort they put into organising the Drift Supercup – I will definitely be back next year.”

The Top Four battles also featured Stewart Furze (Nissan R32 GTR) who took third place over Luke Broadbent (Nissan Cefiro). Broadbent’s powerful performance across the weekend, - finishing fourth in the Pro Class along with second in Saturday evening’s U-Pull-It Thrash for Cash Burnout competition - saw him take home the Crowd Pleaser Award, as voted by spectators, for being the most popular Drifter.

Sixth and seventh places belonged to Josh Priseman and Victorian Leigh Pidwell respectively. Last minute entrant, Pidwell almost didn’t make this year’s Drift Supercup as his transport to the event – his Pro Class Nissan Silvia – broke down on the way to the drift venue... However, Pidwell was lucky to be included in the Pro Class qualifying session which ran ahead of schedule. At the end, he made it into the next stage with five minutes to spare.

In the second-tier street slass, Sam Temple claimed the top spot, while in the ‘best Drift state’ title; Ben Purtell, Lloyd Smith, Andrew Considine and Josh Priseman edged out a strong team of local Drifters as the top four in  ‘best Drift state’ category.

The inaugural ‘Spirit of Drift’ prize was awarded to the Drift Supercup Chief Judge, Kristian Applet in recognition for his ongoing dedication to Drifting. “Kristian was not just a judge this weekend - he was also a competitor (Autosport Time Attack), sponsor and a mentor to the drivers… We couldn’t think of anyone else more deserving of this award,” said Event Organiser Rob Curkpatrick.

“The 2010 Drift Supercup was another great weekend at Mallala,” he added. “The Drifting action was great, and the burn-out competitions, time attack and the other off-track entertainment all added to the event.”

“With almost 4,000 spectators, over 90 cars competing and perfect Drifting weather across the whole weekend, we’re not sure how we can top the success again next year,”
