Hot on the heels of its introduction of the new BMW 5 Series, BMW Group Malaysia today unveiled the new 535i Gran Turismo, a new and first of its kind, unique premium sedan which gives a modern take on the classic Gran Turismo.

With its combination of elegant looks, supreme handling and outstanding efficiency, the new 535i GT is further distinguished by its frameless door windows, fully variable rear seats and twin trunk lid.  Exterior wise, the new 535i GT shares many of the design aesthetics which clearly mark it as a part of the sixth generation 5 Series family, while also retaining a distinct look which is emphasized by its coupe-like roofline, long bonnet with forward slanting grille and generous wheelbase.

In addition, this GT variant is also the first four-door BMW to feature frameless doors, a design aesthetic that not only highlights the vehicles sporty coupe-like feel, but also emphasizes the elongated roofline in the tradition of a GT. Other noticeable exterior motives include; new LED corona ring headlights with daytime driving lights and  L shaped brake lights at the rear.

In its engine offering, the 535i GT was the first BMW vehicle to feature the new TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line engine. The TwinPower Turbo features a turbocharger driven by two separate exhaust gas streams which result in extremely fast responses to driver inputs, and with a three-litre engine capacity, the 535i GT generates a powerful 225kW/ 306hp. Through the combination of TwinPower Turbo, VALVETRONIC and High Precision Injection technology, the GT variant also registers 400Nm of Torque which allows it to complete the 0-100km sprint in 6.3 seconds.

With the latest innovations in BMW EfficientDynamics technology, the 535i GT features a fuel consumption level of 8.9 litres/100 km and a CO2 emission level of 209 grams per kilometre, essentially means more power and lower fuel consumption and CO2  emission levels.

In addition to this, as standard in the new 5 Series range, including this GT variant, is the Brake Energy Regeneration and Electromechanical steering technologies. Brake Energy Regeneration allows BMW cars to make use of every watt possible by charging the battery when the vehicle is braking, coasting or decelerating. The technology  improves fuel efficiency by up to three percent and ensures that the full power of the engine is available for acceleration.

In the steering system, while conventional hydraulic systems consistently require engine power which consumes fuel, BMW has developed a new electromechanical steering system that only operates during the actual steering process. As such, so long as the car is moving straight, or is at a constant cornering angle, the electric motor which powers the system is inactive, which in turn reduces energy consumption to optimize efficiency.

Ensuring an exceptionally smooth driving experience, the new 535i GT is also fitted with an 8-speed automatic transmission. With gear ratio changes occuring to the point of unnoticability, the vehicle is able to provide a seemingly endless infusion of power while minimizing gear shift lag time which reduces fuel consumption and emission levels even further.

Optimizing the use and control of the car’s exceptional drive performance capabilities, the GT is fitted with Driving Dynamic Control as standard. With Driving Dynamic Control, drivers are able to interchange between NORMAL, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes at the touch of a button. Additional technologies like; Active Steering, Dynamic Stability Control and Cruise Control are all incorporated to ensure more consistent and smoother drive.

Inside, the 535i GT interior fixtures include elegantly designed finishings derived from premium quality materials such as Dakota for its leather upholsetery,  Fine-wood trim Fineline natural and chrome door sill finishers, plus a panoramic glass roof. Needless to say, ample rear leg room, and a host of entertainment, communication and information functions make this BMW GT car a dream come true for one who desires a premium car with a tinge of GT.

The new 5 Series GT will be available in all 14 BMW dealerships across Malaysia from 15 May and bears an on-the-road without insurance price tag of RM 638,800.
