SIC 1000KM: AXLE MOTORSPORT CONFIDENT IN THEIR FEMALE DRIVERS

Heading into the 2nd edition of the Sepang International Circuit 1000km race this weekend, Axle Motorsport will line-up the second all-girls squad on the grid featuring the likes of Phillipa Yoong, sister of ex-Formula One driver Alex Yoong, and former Red Bull Malaysia Merdeka Millenium Endurance (MME) team’s Hiroko Nakamura.
Yoong and Nakamura returns to the Motorsporting scene following several years of sabbatical and will don the Axle uniforms over the weekend to go head-to-head with the other drivers including the other all-females line-up from Red Bull Malaysia. Nakamura is no stranger to the domestic racing scene as she was one of the star-studded casts along with Yoong and actress Deanna Yusoff of the Red Bull MME team during the 2006 and 2007 MME events.

Yoong commented on her imminent return to racing, “Motorsports has traditionally been a predominantly male-dominated sport. Hiroko and I want to continually demonstrate that female drivers, and in particular the new generation of Asian female drivers, have the skills and tenacity on the race track to succeed!”

Both women, supported by Axle and Alex Yoong, plan to give their the 1000km race competitors a run for their money. They will race the field with the new and improved Proton Neo (above) boats a CPS 1599cc engine, with a chassis specifically built with full roll cage for this race. Additionally, the car has been integrated with Axle Motorsport’s race suspension and damper technology, as well as a revolutionized air intake and exhaust system.
