The exhilarating first leg of Goodyear’s inaugural International Drift Series came to a close over the weekend with Daniel Woolhouse (also known as “Fanga Dan”), followed by Ivan Lau and Ah Fai (Ser Meng Hui) clinching second and third place respectively.

It was a nail biting fight to the finish – with “Fanga Dan” closely edging out his opponent Ivan Lau (above) for the coveted first place title. With several years of experience under his belt, Fanga Dan has been drifting competitively since 2003 and was crowned the D1 New Zealand Champ in 2006. He currently drives a modified RB26DETT, powered Holden VZ Commodore, fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires.

The Goodyear International Drift Series is the only official professional and amateur drift series in Malaysia that is an affiliate of Formula Drift – the renowned North American professional drifting championship series. While this event marks the start of the adrenaline filled Series, there will be more to come, with two more thrilling legs in July and September. Apart from Malaysia, the Series will also kick start in Thailand in July.

Drivers who will make top 15 during the three legs of the Goodyear International Drift Series will pick up crucial points as well as the much desired Formula Drift Asia Pro License (1 year validity period) which would allow them to compete in next year’s Formula Drift Asia Series.

“Goodyear Malaysia had its first hand at drift back in 2007 with the Goodyear Speedfest in Bukit Jalil, and we had decided to take this a step further by sponsoring Formula Drift Singapore back in 2008. From there, the rest is history – we’re certainly pleased with the overwhelming response that we’ve gotten so far,” said Nasution Abdul Rahman, Managing Director, Goodyear Malaysia.

“To constantly raise the bar and elevate the levels of the sport, we have decided to have a Series which we could call our own, and to provide a platform for drifters who aspire to move into the professional ranks of the Formula Drift Pro Series,” he added.
