Europe's top motorsporting veterans; Christian Abt, Marc Surer, Ralf Kelleners, Bertram Schäfer and Krzysztof Hołowczyc, will compete against the 20 regular drivers of the Junior and Pro Cup in the only city street race on the calendar of the innovative one-make cup.

Surer, a former F1 racer, and Schäfer from the F3 series are venturing out onto touring car scene. Surer from Switzerland has contested a total of 82 Formula 1 races from 1979 forwards. Today, Surer is primarily known to German Formula 1 fans as co-commentator and Formula 1 expert on the TV channel Sky Deutschland. Schäfer is the identification figure of the German F3 series.

In Abt and Kelleners, VW is bringing two representatives of the sports and touring car racing scene to the grid. Abt celebrated the drivers title in the 1999 STW Championship and as driver and team owner at the same time helped to build today’s Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline as a championship-winning team in the DTM. Meanwhile, Kelleners competes in the Grand Am and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in the United States. Hołowczyc is a veritable rally multi-talent to make an excursion to circuit racing. The Pole contests cross-country rally events and is regarded as a sprint rally ace.

In addition to the field combining young, emerging talent and seasoned motorsport pros, the Scirocco R-Cup features innovative technological and sporting concepts. Pure bio natural gas which, on balance, reduces the Cup’s overall CO2 emissions by 80 per cent is used as fuel. A push-to-pass system enabling a power boost of 34 kW (50 hp) that is limited in terms of its duration and the number of times it may be used complements the diversity.
