BMW Group Malaysia has introduced four new, special edition motorcycles, in conjunction with the 30th Anniversary of BMW Motorrad’s GS models. Code-named  “30 Years GS”, the new Motorrads consist the BMW R1200 GS (above); R1200GS Adventure; F800GS and F650GS.

These special versions pay tribute to the outstanding success of the Motorrad GS models both in the production of series machines and in motorsport which began in 1980 when BMW Motorrad decided to embark on an entirely new territory with the introduction of the R 80 G/S. In 1981, the motorcycle won its very first race in 1981 and even shined its way to victory at the prestigious Paris – Dakar Rally, leading towards a series of successes in two-wheeled motorsports.

According to Fazli Shukor, BMW Motorrad Manager, BMW Group Malaysia said, “The GS created many firsts not only for BMW Motorrad but for motorcycles of the world. The GS was the first BMW enduro with a single cylinder engine, the first grand touring enduro with suspension and running gears and the first enduro to use engine and transmission as load-bearing elements on the chasis, taking away the burden from the conventional main frame.”

“The GS was also the first motorcycle from BMW to utilise both BMW Paralever rear wheel suspension and BMW Telelever front wheel suspension, and it was the world’s first enduro to feature ABS!” he added.

First in the line Is the R 1200 GS which highlights an exclusive paintwork in Alpine White non-metallic with three-colored decals in the former colours of BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the “30 Years GS” model designation on the fuel tank. The motorcycle also features cross- spoke wheels with a spoke ring in black epoxy finish as well as hand protectors.

The R 1200 GS exudes a masculine and sporting look with its red seats finished with three-dimensional GS stamp in the side flanks. Further upgrades in accordance to a customer’s personal preference can be done by adding special equipment and extras from the wide range of choice offered by BMW Motorrad.

Next, the R 1200 GS Adventure for those who prefers a bike with added masculine appeal and offroad capabilities. The motorcycle represents genuine adventure, optimizing the qualities of the R 1200 GS for the most demanding long distance tours.

The special version of the BMW R 1200 GS also comes with the exclusive paintwork in Alpine White non-metallic and three-coloured decals in the historical livery of BMW Motorrad Motorsport along with the GS emblem on the tank. The motorcycle also highlights extra-large hand protectors in black together with a robust engine protection hoop made of aluminium.

The F800 GS (above left), weighing in at just 207 kg or 456 lb with a full tank, stresses on its dynamic riding qualities both onroad and offroad. Also available with the exclusive Alpine white non-metallic paintwork with three-coloured decals, the F800 has a special red seat finished with a three-dimensional “GS” stamp at the front of the seat bottom as well as the white direction indicators also further marks the sporty highlight of the motorcycle. Further upgrades are made available upon special requests and preference. The F 650 GS (above right) resembles a smaller version of the F800.

Last and definitely not least, the limited ‘HP2 Sport Motosport’ Special edition motorrad, only five units are available in Malaysia. The new HP2 Sport Motorsport distinguishes itself from its predecessor the HP2 Sport in that the motorcycle has its fairing, fuel tank, seat bench, front mudguard and engine spoiler painted in the BMW Motorsport colours of Alpine White, Lupine Blue metallic and Magma Red. Further to this, forged aluminium wheels in Lupine Blue metallic at the front and Alpine White at the rear, exclusive special edition green and black start number areas on the seat body, as well as the presence of the special factory sticker provides further indication to the successful BMW Motorrad Motorsport works motorcycle.

In its engine specifications, the BMW HP2 Sport Motorsport features a flat twin engine equipped with double overhead camshafts and high-engine-speed capable cam followers for valve operation. The engine delivers 98 kW (133 hp) at 8750 rpm with a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 6000 rpm. Further insinuating its exclusive racing feature is the shift assistant in conjunction with the closely synchronised gearbox which permits fast upshifting without having to operate the clutch or stop acceleration.

The equipment and suspension on the BMW HP2 Sport Motorsport also features motor racing technology. The spring elements of the Öhlins sports suspension are fully adjustable and the Brembo braking system with radially bolted monoblock four-piston fixed callipers ensures optimum deceleration even in tough motorracing conditions.

Optimum ergonomics are ensured by the adjustable foot rest system, the cast aluminium adjustable handlebar ends as well as the radial-hand Magura instruments. The standard 2D dashboard, which stems directly from MotoGP racing, provides the rider with conventional information as well as with lap times and further motorsports relevant data.
