VIDEO: INTERPLAY BETWEEN SUSPENSION AND TYRES

This state of the art animation explains the complex effects of different forces at work on a racecar.

For fast lap times every driver needs a car that handles predictably. It sounds simple – but it’s not. The interplay of suspension and tyres with the car’s steering is much greater than the turn of a steering wheel might suggest.

Cornering on the road or racetrack, while the car tends to want to carry straight on, is determined by the circular forces of the rotation of the tyres. The higher the speed, the greater the power needed to overcome a corner, creating an inertia.

Another element is the vertical forces that absorb shocks while the car hits a kerb or a bump on the road.

All the elements combined with the steering system and chassis work together to stabilize the car under all circumstances.
