With the 2010 Paris International Motor Show looming on the horizon, Mazda Motor Europe GmbH has confirmed its intentions to introduce three new and upgraded variants of the all-new Mazda5, facelifted Mazda2 and Mazda3.
The Paris International Motor Show will take place from 2 – 17 October in the City of lights. The show originated in 1889, but really began in 1895 with introduction of “The Automobile Club de France”. At the first edition in 1901, more than 220 exhibitors participated, and since then, it would become the symbol of the Paris Motor Show for 60 years - the Grand Palais. After World War I, exhibitors requested for the Motor Show to be held every other year, and only got their request sorted out 70 years later. Since then, the Paris Motor Show has been held every two years.
The significant of the major French Automobile exhibition is to continue to showcase and support major developments in the automobile industry, in particular in the fields of safety, new forms of energy and the environment in terms of new manufacturer and consumer behavior. Two years ago, the Show got almost 1.5 million visitors, 13,000 accredited journalists from 100 countries and 80 World Premieres prove that it is no longer just a place where you can buy a car, but a true technological showcase where all the car manufacturers show off their know-how.
For this year’s edition, Mazda Motor Europe will focus on low fuel consumption and reduced emissions. Starting with its main highlight - Mazda2, the facelifted “World Car of the Year 2008”, has received a facelift and celebrates its European premiere at Paris with several key changes.
It features a new front end to accentuate Mazda’s unique family face, adding overall appeal to its exterior motive. On the inside, the facelifted Mazda2 has been adorned an upgraded interior as well. The Mazda2 will also incorporate upgraded Euro V powertrain, along with upgraded chassis for even better ride comfort. Another element to the facelifted Mazda2 is the addition of an automatic transmission.
Joining the facelifted Mazda2 will be the all-new Mazda5 premiering with a new economical MZ-CD 1.6 diesel engine. The Mazda5 people carrier is deemed economic and family-friendly.
The all-new Mazda5, which resembles the Mazda3 at the front ever so slightly, is fitted with a frugal and able 1.6-litre diesel engine. The powertrain is highly effective with only 5.2 l/100km fuel efficiency ratings and a capability of producing 115 PS. In addition, it has 15% less CO2 emissions compared to previous 2.0-litre diesel. Add a new lightweight 6-gear manual transmission, an eye-catching design and enhanced Karakuri interior flexibility for up to seven people plus sliding rear doors, you have a rather stacked MPV.
Last but not least is the upgraded Mazda3 with an upgraded MZ-CD 1.6 diesel engine offering more power and torque, while lowering fuel economy and emissions.
This MZ-CD diesel powerplant offers 6 PS additional power output and 12 percent more torque. But, the increase power and torque do not effect its fuel and emissions efficiency ratings of only 4.4 l/100km and 117g/km CO2 respectively. Additionally, the upgraded Mazda3 has been fitted with a lightweight 6-gear manual transmission.
