Before the weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Sauber Motorsport announced that current driver Kamui Kobayashi would continue racing with the team right through the 2011 Formula One World Championship season.

The Japanese driver, who just turned 24, has collected 21 points so far this season and recorded a best race result of sixth at the British GP in Silverstone. He has made it into the top ten qualifying on three occasions, particularly in the second half of the season.

The former Toyota F1 driver has a good bond with team principal Peter Sauber and the rest of the team. Sauber also reiterated that he has full confidence in Kobayashi's racing abilities in the highest level of Motorspors.
“We never had any doubts about working with him again in 2011.” Sauber said.

“Kamui has definitely fulfilled our expectations in terms of his speed and fighting spirit. Plus, his work with the engineers and his technical understanding has also developed very well. The experience he has built up over his first full season in Formula One will certainly stand him in good stead for 2011. And our aim is to give him a fast and reliable car from the outset next season,” he added.

Kobayashi has been one of the most consistent drivers for the better part of the second half of the current season.  He realized that the team have had a tough start with the new car at start of the season, but through the team's united front and determined efforts, they have apparently climbed out of the doldrums. More importantly, the Japanese feels that he's  very much at home in Peter Sauber’s team.

For now, Kobayashi is focusing a hundred per cent on the remaining six races. Sauber has not revealed the second driver for next season just yet, pending a later notice.
