2015 Audi R8 LMS Cup grid, Yoong at turn 2 race 1 It is always difficult for a driver to win the double for car races held at Sepang circuit, as was the case for the 2015 Audi R8 LMS Cup, which is part of the Asian Festival Of Speed (AFOS) event over the weekend.

Former F1 driver and local boy Alex Yoong won Race 1 of the Audi R8 LMS Cup by nearly 3 seconds from Hong Kong’s Marchy Lee. In fact, at the beginning of the race, Yoong had a comfortable margin over the rest of the pack, leading by almost 6 seconds from Lee and 3rd-place Rahel Frey of Switzerland, before slowing down in the last 3 laps that enabled Lee to close the gap.

Yoong also posted the fastest lap of the race with his time of 2 minutes, 10.277 while Lee’s best lap was 2:10.567. Yoong completed Race 1 in total time of 26 minutes, 38.248 seconds while Lee clocked 26:41.129s and Frey did 26:47.469s.

But Lee turned the odds into his favor in Race 2 when he won the race ahead of China’s Cheng Congfu with an improved total time of 26 minutes, 19.961 seconds. Frey clocked the fastest lap of 2 minutes, 10.004s to finish in 3rd place behind Lee and Cheng. Yoong was 4th and 8.188 seconds behind the winner.
